A27 Fitzalan Bridge repairs and closures

Here is some information we have received regarding the closure of the A27 Fitzalan Bridge in Arundel from 26th September to 2nd November.

We have received the following communication from Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald. They say:

"On behalf of Highways England (formerly the Highways Agency) we are writing to inform you that we will shortly be carrying out works in your area.

WHAT

We will be carrying out essential refurbishment works on the A27 Fitzalan Bridge in Arundel. These works will include resurfacing the re-waterproofing the road and footpath, new kerbs, joint replacement and bearing painting.

WHEN

Work will start from Saturday 26 September for 6 weeks up to and including 2 November  (weekends) between 8pm and 5am, weather permitting.  Fitzalan Road will also be closed  8pm to 5am weekdays with a local diversion.

WHY

We are carrying out this work to renew the bridge joints in order to maintain road user safety and to prolong the life of the bridge.

HOW

To carry out the renewal of bridge joints, we will need to manage traffic to make sure road users and our workforce are safe.

In order to carry out this work, there will be a full carriageway closure from Saturday 2000 to Monday 0500, with a temporary diversion for the following weekends:

26 September – 28 September
03 October – 05 October
10 October – 12 October
17 October – 19 October
24 October – 26 October
31 October – 02 November

Diversion Route

There will be a fully signed diversion in place for the duration of the works starting at Clapham Interchange.  Continue along the A280 to Roundstone Roundabout, the diversion will then take you onto the A259 Roundstone By-pass Road.  Continue along this road until you reach The Bodyshop Roundabout where you will stay on  the A259 along the Worthing Road.  Continue along the A259 Hotham Way until you reach the A29, follow the diversion signs along the A29 which will lead you back onto the A259 Bearsted.  Rejoining the A27 at Bognor Roundabout, Chichester.
